Thoughts are meant to be flow.

Ever read a story or saw a movie and resonated with a character, so much so that, you believe it’s you in that story or movie? For most of the people, the answer would be a BIG YES. You just keep reading the whole book or end up watching whole series in one go to unravel the mystery this character holds and why not, this might be how your life may turn out. Recently, I stumbled across a story which may resonate with the current dating scenarios but sure, keep reading to find out.

This is the story of a guy, who doesn’t believe in love. He is a screenwriter by profession. He is told to write a script for a romantic movie by his boss. Being someone who doesn’t believe in the concept of falling in love but would rather keep it casual with every girl he meets, he struggles to write the script. He seeks ideas & inspiration from his group of friends on matters regarding love. However, he fails to get inspired. But when a woman walks into his life, he starts falling for her due to various reasons. However, things get complicated when he finds out that she’s in a relationship with a guy and moreover, there’s wedding bells already.

There are some key takeaways though, I would like to point out some, of course for my documentation, if you answered YES above you might want to follow through as well.

A Feeling Thing

Love isn’t a thinking thing. It’s a feeling thing and this is what it felt like for me.

Culminating his whirlwind experience with true love, the narrator explains what love is really about. It’s a feeling and for once, he has felt that personally.

Romance Films Aren’t True

Yeah you heard it right. How much however you resonate with the character it’s not going to be the same story for you, which in my view, aren’t true.

They’re what we wish were true.

While the narrator remarks that this is not how the world really works, while also reminding us all that being fiction is the whole point of movies and novels.

Love is Confusing

Love is confusing and it’s terrifying and 99 times out of 100 it doesn’t work but if we have even the slightest chance of being that one time, I’m willing to regret you for the rest of my life.

The narrator explains, in his own special way, that he loves Her. While he knows love is really difficult to find, for once, he’s willing to take his chances. Even I fell for the narrator here.

Love is Like a Retirement Account

The narrator’s grandfather offers him a great analogy about successful relationships. They require putting in a little work, but it matches your investment. You love a little, you’re loved a little.

PS: The Bhagavad Gita, the famous Hindu scripture also mention this: Lord Krishna says “ ये यथा मां प्रपद्यन्ते, तान्स्तथैव भजाम्यहं।” Translation-Whatsoever the manner in which they approach Me, in that very manner I resort to them.

Fight for Your Love

The narrator’s grandfather urges him to go after Her, regardless of what situation she might be in with another man. I don’t know the fight maybe harsh but in the end it’s worth it.

Sex is the Answer to Everything

A key difference in the minds of men and women are highlighted when a female friend asks the group of guys one simple question. According to them, yes, men do think sex is the answer to everything. Well, Well, Well…I leave it to the reader to judge.

Love is a Downer

Narrator: Love is a downer, which is why someone says, ‘I love you,’ my response has been, ‘I just don’t see myself ever feeling the same way about you.’ But then I met this girl.

The narrator explains to his friends his feelings about love, more specifically that he doesn’t believe it exists. He doesn’t want to write a gushy romantic as that’s not reality. Yeah friends, Truth or fiction, reality is sometimes a downer.

There may be some, the persons who said NO to the first question I raised, who never quite understand why people feel the need to over-analyze every movie they ever see or story they read and look for some deeper hidden meaning, not everything needs to be. Sometimes it’s good to enjoy something less heavy and enjoy it for what it is.. light entertainment.

But yes, I do learn something by documenting these things, and it helps me to be the better version of me.
